What will you do as a Regional Director Projects?

As a Regional Director Projects, you will be responsible to continuously improve our Project Execution Excellence to Industry Best levels through support, coaching and engagement with the regional project community, implementing industry best project management practices and innovations, as well as providing regional project management governance

What do we expect from you as a Regional Director Projects?

The role is to be performed on a regional level with the center of engagements within the time zones of the region. The role can be executed remotely, regular office attendance is required and should be aligned with colleagues’ attendance and engagements. Travel within the region is required with occasional travels outside the region to support global engagements, PEER support and/or SME contribution. The project environments within Vopak provide an exciting exposure to front-line industry and travel, but the career trajectory requires experience building and track records in this field.

  • 10-15 years of experience in a role of project manager or project director in the process industry. Proven track records in:

    • front-end development

    • basic and detailed engineering

    • project management planning

    • stakeholder management,

    • project controls

    • contracts management

    • construction management & safety  

  • Ability to work and engage team members and stakeholders, cross generation and cross culture

  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and spoken. Local language proficiency is an advantage

  • Self propelling, entrepreneurial with grit and determination

  • Good social skills, connects easily with business, develops Vopak networks, inspires and facilitates people

  • International mindset with willingness and ability to travel

Your core responsibilities are:

  • Responsible for the Health, Safety and Quality standards and policies for projects in the region and an active promoter and initiator of improvements on SHE and Quality performance of projects

  • Provide input to the continuous improvement of the global standards, global tooling and global templates regarding projects

  • Drive continuous improvement and innovation in the Vopak Project methodologies as well as drive project Innovations for construction safety and productivity such as computer vision

  • Promotes and develops standardization over the projects for all regions

  • Support controls manager to Implement data acquisition, analysis and project control systems - to allow proactive and  informed governance

  • Maintain overview of the Project Workload lookahead

  • Monitor and influence the staffing of Project Manager positions in the BUs for complex projects based on qualifications and experience

  • Support the development and maintenance of the Global Lessons Learned, Statistics and Norms library

  • Support the development and maintenance of the D2C digital process

  • Onboarding and coaching of PMs within the region

  • Coaching of Project Owners within the region

  • Attend Steerco’s and other Governance activities

  • Track project performance and intervene where required

  • SIP, FIP reviews and tender board attendance within the region

  • Support Global Project Community Forums and discussions

  • Maintain connection with Industry Partners to collaborate on Industry Best Practices for Project Execution (IPMA, PMI, PMP accreditation)

  • Monitor the regional skillpool and implement the Project Managers seniority accreditation system

  • Analyze the Project Funnel, complexities, locations and identify issues and recommendation with the Project Owners with regards to team requirements

  • Maintain sponsor-level relationship with staffing agencies for Projects in the region

  • Support the development of career path archetypes for project personnel within Vopak
