Role Purpose
To lead the Vopak Sydney Terminal's organisation towards a consistently safe, reliable, service oriented and cost effective performance and simultaneously ensure the organisation moves into the agreed strategic direction.

What You'll Do
The Terminal Manager is based in Sydney. This is a permanent role, reporting to Managing Director, Vopak Terminals Australia (VTA). 

  • Core member of the Management Team (MT).  Together with the MD and the other functional managers, the MT manages and steers our business
  • Lead terminal Operations, Maintenance and Customer Service team.  Total headcount consist of approximately 40 staff
  • Overall accountability for delivery of high quality services to our customers in a safe, compliant, efficient and sustainable manner
  • Partner with the SHE function to deliver high SHEQ standards and drive a proactive SHE Culture in the terminal.
  • Maintain a high level of teamwork with other functions to ensure that all terminal operations are compliant with company policies and requirements, Vopak way of working and local regulations
  • Manage terminal operating / capex budgeting, scoping and implementation
  • Where applicable, initiate and oversee projects which adds value to the business not only in the short term but also in the longer term
  • Facilitate and grow Operations and Maintenance capability (breadth and depth development of skills and knowledge of personnel) by ensuring long term development ofmpeople across the organisation to ensure optimal resource allocation

Who You Are
To be successful in this role the candidate is able to demonstrate:

  • Strong orientation towards safety and service.  Technical competency would be of additional benefit.
  • Significant experience in team management
  • Strong and sound knowledge of operations, safety and product knowledge. Familiarity with an oil terminal and experience in hazardous and dangerous good industry is preferred
  • Strong communication and people management skills, from operators to supervisors to peers and external stakeholders. 
  • Outstanding ability to build and maintain strong relationships internally and externally
  • Strong problem solving and decision making skills and Ability to take decisions promptly based on inputs from team members, based on data, balancing against competing priorities
  • Keen awareness of underlying customer needs and prevailing industry/market trends and practices.
  • Ability to conceptualise and develop longer term views and execute new initiatives/projects, and ability to use data to support such an initiative/project
  • Tertiary qualification in management, operations and/or technical is preferred
