Position Summary
Trainees will gain knowledge and experience working alongside managers and senior professionals in multiple departments and/or locations to learn the Vopak business which may include terminal operations, customer service, commercial, engineering, finance, and other corporate functions. Trainees will be hired into a designated department based on their education and experience to work on projects designed to move our business forward while building individual competencies and skills. Admittance into the Management Trainee program is highly selective and trainees will receive regular coaching and performance feedback throughout the program.
Essential Job Functions
The employee will work in different departments and/or locations handling different assignments which could include any or all of the following:
Safety (required duty)
Learns the Vopak Safety Fundamentals and abides by all safety procedures and practices applicable to location and position; participates in appropriate safety training; demonstrates commitment to and support of SH&E principles and values; champions safety as necessary
Terminal Operations and Engineering
Participates in full orientation to the terminal
Works 'hands on' in the field within operations to ensure understanding of all operating activities and processes (may include shift work)
Assists maintenance and/or engineering with delegated duties
Assists with capital improvement projects; works on larger scope and size projects as proficiency increases
Assists in developing, monitoring, coordinating and controlling annual expenses and capital budgets for technical projects; assists in annual budget development
Develops the necessary information for project identification, bidding, contacts and tracking
Researches 'best practices' for technical aspects of assigned projects
Works with the team to prepare and deliver operational and technical support presentations
Assists with research, plans, and designs for systems and capital projects; works on RFP as requested
Ensures all assigned projects are in compliance with Company and regulatory requirements
Assists colleagues in ensuring allocation of necessary resources
Customer Service
Learns customer service responsibilities, processes, and administrative duties; trains on applicable software, database, and other computer programs
Manages delegated customer service duties and/or projects as assigned
Functions as part of the customer service team and assists in identifying and implementing operational and service improvements
Commercial Department
Assists in writing business plans, business investment justifications, etc. in cooperation with company Finance personnel
Seeks out market intelligence; performs market studies; analyzes information as requested
Collects and monitors customer developments; works directly with customers
Participates in multi-disciplinary teams
Assists in strategy development
Experience Requirement
1-2 years' relevant work experience in operations, engineering or business field
Operations/Engineering:
Ability to research best chemical plant practices in safety, health, and environmental areas for engineering and construction
Ability to read engineering, construction and other technical specs, drawings, schematics, plans, and similar documents; ability to read and understand complex government regulations and translate/incorporate these requirements into terminal construction, engineering and maintenance plans
Sales/Marketing:
Ability to collect and analyze market intelligence and studies
Experience building and maintain positive customer relationships
Other Skills:
Excellent organizational skills; problem-solver; ability to multi-task
Working knowledge of computer programs including Microsoft Office suite, MS Project, PowerPoint; various email and internet programs and applications; computer-based design experience preferred
Excellent English communication skills, both oral and written; listening skills

Education Requirement
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Finance, Economics, Business, Marketing, or related fields (depends upon expected position at end of training program)
Minimum GPA of 3.0 based on a 4.0 scale

Work Environment
This position requires an employee to be in an office environment as well as exposed to outside elements. Most extreme elements are heat in the summer months of up to 100°+ and some exposure to cold of generally no less than 0° in the winter months. There will be exposure to various chemicals and compounds, including fumes and smells, some of them hazardous. The employee may enter confined spaces and work in elevated environments. Employee must be able to wear PPE required by the location. General office noise may be experienced and louder sounds and vibrations when outside. All environments are safe with appropriate PPE.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, sit, speak and hear. The employee is required to stand, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; the employee may be required, on occasion, to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee may be required to climb ladders/storage tanks up to 50' in height. The employee may be required to enter confined spaces. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Employee may be required to travel by air, rail, bus, or car.
