Position Summary

This position is responsible for inspection, repair and upgrade of mechanical and hydraulic equipment, pumps, piping, and, as assigned, electrical equipment. Additionally, this position will be responsible for the maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and repair of all instruments, distributive control systems, electrical equipment, PLC's and/or process analyzers.

Essential Job Functions

  • Abides by all safety procedures and practices applicable to location and position; participates in appropriate safety training; demonstrates commitment to and support of SH&E principles and values; champions safety as necessary
  • Performs preventative maintenance on equipment
  • Responds to operational needs as assigned
  • Repairs, troubleshoots, upgrades, and calibrates various equipment and devices used by Company
  • Repairs, maintains, and installs electrical and instrumentation and control systems and equipment such as major plant power distribution system controllers, wiring, switches, control valves, analyzers (process and environmental) and alarm systems used in both PLC & DCS control environments for the monitoring, control, & safeguarding of process system flows and operating variables in accordance with applicable codes and safety regulations.
  • Performs a variety of complex technical duties, including locating and diagnosing complex equipment failures.
  • Able to read, interpret, & modify Ladder Logic and Cause & Effect Diagrams to maintain system operation within design requirements.
  • Repairs and aligns rotating equipment including, but not limited to, hydraulic systems, pumps, compressors, and chiller units
  • Assists in establishing and maintaining file system
  • Performs preventative maintenance on equipment
  • Trains regularly on all Federal, state and local environmental regulations, requirements and guidelines including, but not limited to, RCRA requirements; follows and adheres to all guidelines, regulations, and requirements
  • Performs other duties assigned by management that fall within the generally expected scope of this position
  • Handles cost estimations; contacts vendors; purchases equipment and materials
  • Acts as team leader to other technicians as required, assists team members as appropriate
  • Coordinates and schedules repairs and projects with operations and contractor personnel
  • Repairs, troubleshoots, upgrades, and calibrates various instruments
  • Capable of reading, interpreting, modifying & generating ladder logic and Cause & Effect Diagrams for both PLC & DCS control systems
  • Demonstrates some knowledge of electrical circuits, single and three phase electrical systems, electrical codes, voltage and currents
  • Acts as team leader to other technicians as required, assists team members as appropriate
  • Able to generate I&A operating manuals & training materials for use in developing new or junior staff members in the field

Experience Requirement

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 5 years experience in Mechanical/Construction industry preferred
  • 5+ years terminal experience strongly preferred
  • Experience working with Federal, state and local environmental regulations including RCRA
  • Good computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Electrical Journeyman State License preferred
  • Knowledge of electrical codes, voltage, current, and power levels; experience working with single three phase electrical systems, power distribution systems, conduit and raceway installations
  • 5 years experience in Instrumentation & Electrical industry preferred
  • Experience with rotating equipment
  • Knowledge of tank and piping standards
  • Experience driving various forklifts
  • Ability to read strapping tables
  • Must possess valid state Driver's License
  • Ability to read, interpret and follow written job instructions and directions
  • Ability to read, interpret and follow U.S. Coast Guard manuals and other regulatory documents as applicable
  • Ability to read and understand safety procedures, including OSHA standards and regulations
  • Basic mathematical skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; ability to work with fractions and perform various mathematical conversions commonly used in petrochemical industry

Work Environment

This position requires an employee to be in an office environment as well as exposed to outside elements.  Most extreme elements are heat in the summer months of up to 100+ degrees and some exposure to cold of generally no less than 20° in the winter months.  There will be exposure to various chemicals and compounds, including fumes and smells, some of them hazardous.  Employee must be able to wear PPE required by the location.  General office noise may be experienced and louder sounds and vibrations when outside.  All environments are safe with appropriate PPE.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, sit, speak and hear.  The employee is required to stand, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; the employee may be required, on occasion, to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch.  The employee may be required to climb ladders/storage tanks up to 50' in height.  The employee may be required to enter confined spaces.  The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to twenty (20) pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.  Employee may be required to travel by air, rail, bus, or car.
