Position Summary
The overall responsibility of this position is to ensure compliance with local, state and federal environmental, health and safety regulations for the Company.
Essential Job Functions
Participate in internal planning and scheduling meetings to keep abreast of infrastructure replacement projects schedule and changes
Develop, implement and maintain internal policies and procedures to ensure compliance with internal and external standards and regulations
Ensure organization is adhering to all state and federal regulations relevant to the industry and to the companies' internal guidelines
Managing, and overseeing external and internal audits
Recommending and implementing changes to procedures and practices that are not compliant with industry regulations
Monitor and evaluate state legislation and other governmental actions and initiatives
Provide regular reports to the Managing Director on the status of pending legislation affecting Vopak companies and/or objectives
May assist in the preparation of Vopak comments and public statements on legislative issues and regulatory proposals
Facilitate meetings with municipalities, engineering, construction and operations leaders to review and collaborate on projects
Maintain liaison with regulatory agencies, legislators, legislative staff, and state agencies
Under direction of the Managing Director and Communications Manager, initiate and implement public education, and/or campaign/advocacy programs such as employee outreach efforts, public opinion research, website content, multi-media advertising, and direct mail efforts
Ensure that organizations comply with industry specifications, standards, regulations, and laws
Review operational practices, create and enforce compliance plans, and perform regulatory risk management
Review documentation and procedures, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders on compliance-related issues, and performing compliance audits and compiling reports.
Developing and enacting regulatory compliance strategies
Coordinating regulatory compliance procedures across organizational structures
Providing training in compliance practices and procedures
Monitoring compliance and facilitating interventions to manage risks
Documenting compliance-related processes and maintaining records
Keeping abreast of regulatory changes and developments in the regulatory environment
Education Requirement
BS/BA degree in communications, public relations, business administration, political science or related field required. In lieu of a degree, experience relative to the positions principal objective and essential functions may be considered.
Experience Requirement
5-7 years of experience working in a plant or regulatory environment
Knowledge of Environmental Management Systems
Working knowledge of RCRA, CalOSHA, CalEPA, permits and regulations,knowledge of industry regulations and governing laws strongly desired
Ability to establish working relationships with local, state and federal officials, as well as the press and public
Proven excellent oral and written communication skills required
An in-depth understanding of applicable internal and external rules, guidelines, and regulations.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and database software

Excellent interpersonal and teaming skills required

Flexibility for varied work schedule and required travel, to accommodate internal and external meetings, municipality communications, construction schedules, customer service and emergency support
