The Position

Environmental  Assessment and Compliance Specialist (based in Calgary – Alberta or Vancouver – British Columbia)

Reports to: Manager Regulatory & Stakeholder Relations

Main Objective

As part of the regulatory and stakeholder relations team, the Environmental Assessment and Compliance Specialist will provide support in the environmental assessment and permitting process of the Vopak Pacific Canada project, including ensuring compliance with post-approval conditions during construction and operations. The Environmental Assessment and Compliance Specialist will provide support to the Canada East team as needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preparation and review of summary reports, meeting minutes, and tracking documents
  • Provision of practical solutions to Vopak
  • Support (review or prepare) regulatory approval and permitting applications
  • Liaise with consultants, First Nations, stakeholders and regulatory agencies to ensure project permitting is advanced
  • Support and preparation of environmental protection and mitigation plans to facilitate regulatory approvals in concert with discipline specialists
  • Review of technical reports associated with the project approvals or compliance requirements
  • Ensuring technical quality of work including review of consultant deliverables (proposals, reports and mapping)
  • Ensuring compliance with project approval conditions or compliance requirements
  • Develop and maintain a compliance tracking tool

Qualifications

  • Recognized ability to work independently and succeed in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven knowledge of environmental permit, approval and compliance requirements including B.C. Environmental Assessment Act, B.C. Ministry of Environment, and federal Acts and Regulations
  • Demonstrable knowledge of environmental mitigation and protection planning measures
  • Experience with community engagement activities to support environmental assessment processes preferred but not required

Education

  • University degree or diploma in environmental science or a related discipline
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience focusing on environmental assessments
  • Has obtained, or is eligible for, a professional designation (e.g., R.P.Bio., P.Biol.)
