SHEQ Director

We're seeking a dedicated Director SHEQ & Sustainability to lead the SHEQ teams at our terminals and Westerlaan office. In this role, you'll play a pivotal part in improving our safety and sustainability performance, ensuring compliance with European and local legislation, as well as meeting the requirements of our valued customers. What will you do as a Director SHEQ & Sustainability?

As a Director SHEQ & Sustainability you drive safety and sustainability improvements and compliance  for the Business Unit Netherlands. You will be leading a team of SHEQ professionals at the Business Unit, including two SHEQ Managers at the terminals in areas such as operational and contractor safety, process safety, sustainability and external and internal compliance. You will also play a key role in supporting the sites to transition towards the storage and handling of sustainable fuels and new energies and work actively to reduce the environmental and carbon footprint of the different sites.

What do we expect from you as a Director SHEQ & Sustainability?

With your good leadership skills you are able to encourage the SHEQ team to perform to their optimum. Because of your depth of knowledge and know-how you are able to increase awareness of (potential) SHEQ issues, dangerous situations and to reduce risks. Furthermore you have: 

• Education to Academic level, preferably in safety or environmental science;

• 15 years+’ experience with SHEQ activities and/or in the oil or chemicals industry;

• Operations, Maintenance or Quality management experience is plus

• Good communication skills in Dutch and English, both written and spoken

• In depth knowledge of relevant SHEQ rules and regulations;

• Good communicative and social skills.

• Eligibility to work in the Netherlands.

You will be leading a skilled SHEQ team. Your direct reports are the SHEQ Managers at the terminals with their own teams and SHEQ advisors. What are the core responsibilities?

You contribute to the reputation of Vopak as a safe and high-quality organization for all stakeholders. You manage the SHEQ Managers and SHEQ Advisors. 

Other tasks and responsibilities are:

• Lead, support, develop and challenge the SHEQ team;

• Manage and Ensure safety and SHE compliance to local legislation and Vopak requirements;

• Drive, support and monitor compliance to relevant SHEQ related permits and certification standards. 

• Develop and maintain relationships with all relevant public bodies and stakeholders. Share information, in order to obtain knowledge on new regulations and to contribute to a positive reputation of Vopak.

• Drive and support the site team and terminal employees to reduce the environmental and carbon footprint of the different locations

• Initiate and support sustainability projects within the BU

• Support the commercial and business development team with the transition of the sites towards more sustainable fuels and new energies by arranging for example the necessary permits to store and handle these new products

• Develop and improve SHEQ and sustainability policies and procedures and discuss these within the SHEQ NL network. 

• Guide terminal SHEQ managers to implement SHE policies, safety plan and program;

• Direct SHEQ managers to develop safety culture, management process and effective tools;

• Organize the audit plan and provide training to terminals;

• Review operations risk assessment and risk mitigation measurement;

• Ensure the quality of the PSSR;

• Report and analyze SHE performance;

• Investigate incidents and develop the improvement actions, and govern the progress of the actions;

• Share SHE learning and build the safety culture of BU.
