This senior member of the China & North Asia management team member defines and executes Vopak China & North Asia’s growth strategy in alignment with Vopak’s corporate and divisional business objectives. The VP BD is specifically responsible for developing oil, gas and chemical tank terminals business growth through green-field and brown-field developments as well as acquisitions and alliances. Fluent in both English and Mandarin is a must.
1. Business strategy, plan, and budget
Co-responsible as Vopak China & North Asia management team member to develop the Vopak China & North Asia business strategy as to obtain the objectives for Vopak in China & North Asia. Develop an integrated and effective BU strategy to achieve growth and development of the Company’s businesses in China & North Asia Understand the political, economic, and business trends in China & North Asia; decipher and interpret major policies, for example, the 5-year Economic Plan as to be able to effectively discover and advise on opportunities, risks and actions required.
2. BD plan and budget
Develop the BD plan and budget, derived from the business strategy, plan and budget, to have clear plans and objectives for actions and decisions.
3. Market know how - intelligence
Overall responsible for market information and analyses of market trends, competitors, key customers and make information available within China & North Asia, the division and the whole Vopak network, to ensure up to date and thorough understanding of the market developments as well as present and future needs of customers.
4. Business Development
Identify and develop BD opportunities providing detailed commercial and market analysis to develop a solid business case and after board approval contribute to the realization of local and or regional projects, in line with market trends and customer needs, to ensure sustainable growth. Projects could include mergers and acquisitions, grass root developments, special projects, and expansions.
5. New Energy development Leverage existing infrastructure/New Technology Applicable to Existing business – Ammonia, LOHC etc. Leverage Vopak’s knowledge, capabilities, skills etc. – Hydrogen, CCS etc. Storage / Transportation related – e.g., Fuel cell, Flow batteries, NH3/H2 Shipping New Frontier – electricity etc..
6. Project Management
Overall responsible for planning, managing multi-disciplinary teams, monitor progression (actions and budget) and realise BD projects, in line with the agreed quality, planning and budget, and in cooperation with Vopak professionals, (potential) customers, partners and third parties.
7. In- and external network
Build, coordinate and maintain close relationships with relevant in- and external relations; Vopak network, authorities on local, provincial, and national level, Chinese major oil, and chemical companies, (potential) customers and JV partners, service providers, to ensure their support in the interest of a successful project realisation.
8. Partner contracts
Prepare (JV) partner contracts; contribute to the negotiation and after management approval execution of the contract, in close cooperation with general, financial, and commercial management, to have a clear and univocal understanding on the arrangements with the partner(s) in the BD process.
9. Service providers Overall responsible to enter contracting and to manage contracts (performance, cost) with external professionals and or service providers, in line with internal guidelines (approval, procurement) and if needed in cooperation with the China & North Asia management team, to ensure the external professional expertise or support to achieve BD objectives.
10. Vopak polices Ensure that all the necessary Vopak policies, procedures and systems are incorporated in the BD project proposals and execution and make use of best practices for compliancy and project success purposes.
11. Management & Organisation BD & Commercial department Responsible for the management, training and personal development of the BD and Commercial department staff, including merit appraisal. Set and agree clear and achievable objectives with all staff to support the BU strategy.
