What will you do as a Safety Specialist?
This position oversees the implementation of safety, health, environmental, quality and security (SHEQ) policies, rules, and procedures at the terminal, provides advice and guidance to employees and contractors on company standards and applicable regulations, promotes safe behaviors, and environmental stewardship.

What do we expect from you as a Safety Specialist?
Must possess or be able to obtain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) as required by the Maritime Transportation Security Act
College degree in occupational health and safety, Industrial Hygiene, environmental or a related field preferred
Certified in CPR, AED; first aid and EMT certifications preferred
At least 5 years of plant or terminal experience required
Current class C driver’s license and TWIC card
Operations/Safety experience at a bulk liquids multimodal storage and transfer facility preferred
Experience working at a PSM and/or RCMS-certified facility preferred
Knowledge of current health and safety and environmental regulations – EPA, TCEQ, OSHA, DOT, Coast Guard, Texas Railroad Commission, etc.
What does your day look like?
Your core responsibilities are:
Develop, implement, and monitor comprehensive health and safety programs that align with company policies and regulatory requirements.
Conduct risk assessments, job safety analyses, and site inspections to identify hazards and recommend corrective actions.
Lead incident investigations and ensure root cause analysis is performed to prevent recurrence.
Oversee facility environmental programs and requirements and ensure compliance with local, national, and international regulations.
Implement sustainability initiatives aimed at reducing the organization's environmental footprint, including energy consumption, waste management, and emissions control.
Ensure that products, services, and processes meet established Vopak quality standards.
Conduct internal audits, facilitate external audits, support continuous improvement initiatives, and collaborate with stakeholders to resolve non-conformances.
Manage the organization’s security policies and programs to protect personnel, assets, and intellectual property.
Coordinate with external agencies and internal teams to respond effectively to security threats or breaches.
Stay updated on SHEQ laws, regulations, and industry best practices.
Prepare and submit required compliance reports to government agencies and company leadership as required.
Design and deliver training programs to build employee awareness and competency in SHEQ topics.
Mentor and guide facility employees and contracts to develop their SHEQ awareness and involvement.
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies, customers, and contractors, to promote SHEQ objectives.
Act as the primary point of contact during audits, inspections, and emergency situations.

Work Environment
This position requires an employee to be in an office environment as well as exposed to outside elements. Most extreme elements are heat in the summer months of up to 100°+ and some exposure to cold of generally no less than 0° in the winter months. There will be exposure to various chemicals and compounds, including fumes and smells, some of them hazardous. The employee may enter confined spaces and work in elevated environments. Employee must be able to wear PPE required by the location. General office noise may be experienced and louder sounds and vibrations when outside. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. All environments are safe with appropriate PPE.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, sit, speak and hear. The employee is required to stand, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; the employee may be required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee may be required to climb ladders/storage tanks up to 50’ in height. The employee may be required to enter confined spaces. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Employee may be required to travel.
