What will you do as a Reporting and Control Manager?

This position protects profitability and reduces risk for the company by managing the financial reporting (in multiple currencies), the controls, and the compliance functions; ensures the timely and accurate completion of internal and external audits; oversees budgeting cycle, consolidations, payroll, treasury, credit, collections and cash management, as well as all tax preparation and filing.

What do we expect from you as a Reporting and Control Manager?

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or similar degree required

  • Advanced degree in related area, CPA or equivalent experience helpful

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in company accounting with experience in financial reporting, budgeting, financial compliance, tax accounting and/or auditing

  • Experience with petroleum, petrochemical, chemical and related industries preferred; international business experience helpful

  • Good understanding of GAAP, International Financial Reporting Standards, FASB, Sarbanes Oxley and similar regulations and requirements

  • Excellent knowledge of accounting and financial systems; proven analytical skills

  • Proven ability to operate under stressful situations (i.e., multiple deadlines, multiple customers, and different conditions and formats of data)

  • In-depth understanding of financial reporting and financial management concepts (i.e., budgeting, return on investment, ROCE, cost of goods/services sold, profitability, KPIs, etc.)

  • Excellent computer skills, including ability to easily use MS Office suite; ability to create, read and manipulate Excel spreadsheets

  • Ability to read, understand, analyze, negotiate and report on standard or complex information of all kinds in English

  • Excellent English communications skills, both oral and written

  • Customer service focus including the ability to speak diplomatically; problem solver

  • Ability to multi-task; experience in project management

What does your day look like?

Your core responsibilities are:

  • Abides by all safety procedures and practices applicable to location and position; participates in appropriate safety training; demonstrates commitment to and support of SH&E principles and values; champions safety as necessary

  • Leads team of 3-4

  • Handles corporate controls

  • Oversees banking relationships, domestic and foreign; responsible for banking covenants; manages thin cap and dividends

  • Manages cash flow reporting to parent corporation

  • Supervises, trains and develops staff in the finance/accounting department; motivates staff promoting teamwork especially during critical deadlines

  • Ensures timely and accurate monthly closing and works with the Global director of shared services and his team to ensure of AP/AR, Invoicing and General Ledger meet Vopak integrity compliance guidelines

  • Manages consolidations of financial information; ensures proper, accurate and timely compilation, analysis and reporting of various financial information used for management action; information may include OCR, KPI’s, census, overtime data, property schedules, property compliance reporting, etc.; reviews and amends as required Finance KPI’s

  • Responsible for the monthly reporting, budget, and LE process for the Business Unit and Shared Service management companies, including working with the Management Team in creating and/or updating the various cost centers; completing the allocation process in compliance with transfer pricing mechanism in place; reviewing the booking of expenses; and the periodic invoicing to intragroup and JV/associate companies

  • Verifies accurate and timely uploading of budget information to various financial systems

  • Oversees allocation and accrual of funds for various financial risk reduction measures such as insurances, employee benefits, environmental and taxes; assures payment of these measures to appropriate parties. Oversees book and tax depreciation accounting

  • Coordinates tax, benefit plans and financial audits; manages audit procedures

  • Ensures timely completion, review and approval of internal and external financial audits as required by various regulations and internal policies; audits include company retirement plans administered by outside vendors

  • Verifies compliance with various US and international legislation requiring detailed and complete documentation of prescribed processes, procedures and activities relating to management and financial controls within companies covered by the regulations, legislation examples include International Accounting Standards (IAS)

  • Oversees accuracy and handling of cash balances in all accounts

  • Responsible for managing financial statement preparation

  • Approves all incoming and outgoing wire transfers

  • Ensures the appropriate, accurate and timely completion of financial information necessary for due diligence required in mergers, acquisitions and divestitures

  • Ensures accurate and timely completion of tax preparation documents for use by outside tax filing vendors

  • Manages the quarterly finance process including, but is not limited to, the quarterly call with the Rotterdam team

  • Ensures accurate documentation of internal controls procedures

  • Oversees various outside relationships including but not limited to tax consultants and auditors

  • Regularly update knowledge with regard to new and updated financial legislation and regulations that could affect the company

  • Develops and writes finance and financial system procedures as needed

  • Ensures accurate quarterly financial statement preparation as required for banks

  • Oversees proper use of various computer systems required for financial reporting, including adherence to segregation of duties requirements

  • Performs other duties assigned by management that fall within the generally expected scope of this position
