Key accountabilities

  • Cost and Productivity: keep operational costs at a optimal level to effectively continue to operate existing business efficiently and expand market share, whilst continuously improve competitiveness against external market benchmarks.
  • Ag   Aggressively challenge new projects capex cost to ensure best value-for-money facilities are installed, thereby improving the long term cash-yield of the company.
  • Profit:  given the constraints of the facilities, maintain and develop the customers portfolios such that the profits and the long term sustainability of the profits are optimised.
  • Enhanced Customer Service: ensure that Terminal staff appreciate and are able to speedily and proactively act to meet dynamic market changes and customer requirements by personally leading the team and changing staff mindset by example, and making improvements in internal operating efficiency and taking a total market approach to be more competitive by  aligning internal work flow to be cross-functionally integrated to deliver more speedily and flexibly to customer needs
  • Quality products and services: ensure development of disciplined method to improve operations processes by leading team in developing a quality focussed work culture by aligning old and new mindsets to embrace a common perspective, spearhead cross-departmental quality initiatives to deliver quality products at lowest cost, fastest time and within SHE parameters
  • Human Resource Capability: ensure a strong bench strength of internal capability by working closely with managers to attract, identify, coach, motivate and develop a stable internal core set of talent through broadening their overall cross training and skill-set repertoire such that talent can be regionally transferable for any regional operational expansion efforts, hence spreading the consistency and standard of technology and knowledge across the regional network. Build a team with strong teamwork and positive company culture.
  • Customer relations: build and maintain excellent working relationships with management team of key customers to understand latest market nuances and strategic shifts within their industry sector and act to proactively pre-empt the resultant implications on own direction and operations, value adding where necessary to support the achievement of their business goals to optimise Vopak’s interests.
  • Supplier relations: build and maintain high level relationships with key suppliers and business partners, in close cooperation with local and industry management, to establish continuous clarity regarding business goals, whilst leveraging business opportunities with them
  • Reporting: ensure regular review and reporting of progress in realization of business plans and results
  • Integrated logistics/Flow management: To contribute to the development and implementation of integrated logistics/flow management in Terminal. Pro-actively initiate a business plan and set up stepping stone approach for the implementation of integrated Logistics on the basis of an industrial terminal concept and subsequently extend the activity to flow management
  • Contribution to divisional and global strategy

Education and Experience

  • In-depth business and general management experience with at least 5-10 years of exposure to the running of a terminal involving the commercial, operations, IT, Finance, HR disciplines
  • Teambuilding  and leadership skills, inter-personal skills, business orientation, initiative, customer focus, conceptual ability, flexibility and achievement orientation
  • International exposure
  • A strategist with a macro perspect who is familiar with the intricacies at operating level and is able to make positive contributions there
  • Ability to work in a Chinese and English-speaking environment, with the Skills to speak, read and write Mandarin and English
