What do we expect from you as an Environmental Systems Manager?
Must possess or be able to obtain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) as required by the Maritime Transportation Security Act.
Bachelor's degree in environmental, engineering, management, or related field required. In lieu of a degree, candidates must possess a minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience and 10 years of terminal industry experience
2-5 years of supervisory experience
2-5 years of experience working in operations or similar environment; terminal experience a plus
2 -5 years of experience specialized training in wastewater treatment and hazardous waste treatment, storage and disposal or Environmental related field
Experience working with Class I injection well
Experience working directly with customers
Experience in the operation and maintenance of biological wastewater treatment, hazardous waste treatment, storage and disposal, Class I injection wells, and water distribution systems
Must be familiar with safety practices and procedures related to the operation of wastewater treatment, hazardous waste treatment, storage and disposal, Class I injection wells, and water distribution systems
Experience working with Federal, state and local environmental regulations including RCRA; good understanding of environmental, DOT, USCG, safety, health and regulatory requirements
Knowledge of response and incident command systems; experience in emergency response procedures
Experience in creating, analyzing and working within budgets
Experience in writing and implementing processes and procedures.
Excellent computer skills, including ability to easily use MS Office Suite, various email, internet, and other programs
Excellent English communications skills, both oral and written; good presentation skills
Proven managerial skills; ability to set and prioritize goals
Customer service focus including the ability to speak diplomatically; problem solver
What does your day look like?
Your core responsibilities are:
Abides by all safety procedures and practices applicable to location and position; participates in appropriate safety training; demonstrates commitment to and support of SH&E principles and values; champions safety as necessary
Plans, schedules, coordinates, directs, and reviews the work of supervisors and staff engaged in hazardous waste and wastewater treatment, waste stream collection, water distribution, and storm water collection systems
Ensures compliance with state and federal hazardous waste and wastewater quality regulations regarding facility operations and maintenance
Works with management on modifications to the hazardous waste treatment process, water treatment process, water distribution systems, collection systems, and storm water collection systems; considers the technical advice and recommendations of engineering, laboratory and other technical staff members
Work with management team to implement long-term strategic plans for hazardous waste and wastewater treatment systems, water distribution systems, collection systems, and storm water collection systems and participates in setting priorities
Develops and implements emergency plans in the event of equipment failure or unusual operating conditions
Prepares a variety of correspondence and periodic or special reports, often of a technical nature; ensures that records are maintained and reports prepared on the operation and maintenance of facility
Interprets management policies and procedures to subordinates and ensures that they are understood and followed; develops and implements work procedures and standards; provides for the evaluation of the work of terminal operations and disposal staff and recommends disciplinary action when necessary
Communicates regularly with the management on quality assurance, process control and quality control issues.
Interviews, develops, and evaluates direct reports
Supervises, coaches and develops operators at the terminal to achieve Company objectives; tracks and monitors employees’ training needs
Trains regularly on all Federal, state and local environmental regulations, requirements and guidelines including, but not limited to, RCRA requirements; follows and adheres to all guidelines, regulations, and requirements
Reports safety, environmental, and health incidents using various software programs
Ensures that operators follow procedures and work safety rules
Investigates SHE incidents and implements corrective actions
Manage a department budget
Develops and manages projects; communicates requirements and monitors activity
Coordinates with Customer Service, Maintenance, Engineering, and Sales regarding operational activities
Participates actively on the facility Emergency Response team
Randomly selects and audits work instructions for completeness
Performs other duties assigned by management that fall within the generally expected scope of this position
Work Environment
This position requires an employee to be in an office environment as well as exposed to outside elements. Most extreme elements are heat in the summer months of up to 104°F (40°C) and some exposure to cold of generally no less than 15°F (-10°C) in the winter months. There will be exposure to various chemicals and compounds, including fumes and smells, some of them hazardous. The employee may enter confined spaces and work in elevated environments. Employees must be able to wear PPE required by the location. General office noise may be experienced and louder sounds and vibrations when outside. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. All environments are safe with appropriate PPE.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, sit, speak and hear. The employee is required to stand, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; the employee may be required, on occasion, to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee may be required to climb ladders/storage tanks up to 50’ in height. The employee may be required to enter confined spaces. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Employees may be required to travel by air, rail, bus, or car.
