Your main mission
You build and strengthen Vopak’s engagement with local communities, governments, authorities, industry associations and international organizations.
You understand our stakeholders’ perspectives, identify and monitor issues and help senior management develop an adequate response, in line with Vopak’s commitment to responsible business conduct.
You help improve young people’s lives by strengthening the success of the Vopak WeConnect Foundation.
Your direct colleagues
In this role, you work closely with and report to the Global Manager Issues & Public Affairs. You are part of the lean and multi-disciplinary Global Communication and Investors Relations (GCIR) department at Vopak’s head office in Rotterdam. Next to the Public Affairs team, the department consists of three other teams: External Communication, Internal Communication and Investor Relations. In these fields, the department advises and supports the Executive Board and senior management and thereby contributes to realizing Vopak’s strategy and purpose.
Your job
As the Advisor Public Affairs, you help develop and implement Vopak’s public affairs & issues management strategy. Your main responsibilities will be:
Issues management: identify, monitor, research and analyze issues, coordinate and write (position) papers, briefings and speaking notes for the Executive Board and senior management
Stakeholder engagement: help implement the global stakeholder engagement policy, advise and assist senior management in building and maintaining a relevant network, provide training and create public affairs instruments, toolkits and communication materials.
Industry and international organizations: coordinate Vopak’s participation in and help prepare meetings of organizations ranging from the Dutch tank storage association, hydrogen organizations to the World Economic Forum.
State visits and ministerial missions: advise the Executive Board and senior management, coordinate and help organize Vopak’s participation
Sponsoring: help develop and implement Vopak’s sponsoring policy, assess and write replies to sponsoring requests
Drive public affairs or global communication projects
Vopak WeConnect Foundation: support the work of the foundation; if conditions are met, you may act as Secretary of the Foundation and contribute to empower young people in our communities.
We are looking for:
A public affairs professional with at least 3 to 5 years of experience in the field of public affairs and/or issues management, preferably in an international work environment (corporate or agency). Experience at EU level is an asset.
Academic intellectual and professional level (preference for a Ba/Ma in public affairs, political science, EU law or related areas)
Knowledge of public affairs and issues management strategies and (digital) tools
Experience with energy-related topics, due diligence processes and/or government relations
Sensitivity and broad interest in societal trends and developments
Ability to translate external perspectives for internal audiences, and vice versa
A reliable advisor with strong analytical skills
Ability to build and maintain a strong internal and external network
An excellent writer and good communicator
Fluency in English and in Dutch
Knowledge of public affairs and issues management strategies and (digital) tools
Experience in maintaining internet and intranet pages, using mailchimp and social media
Ability to set priorities and execute quickly and with precision
Hands-on team player, self-starter demonstrating ownership.
